Then came the problem of how to sleep. This was not so easy,年第🍒 because,年第🈹 although the foundations of the turtle's mound were of stone,女友📇 there was hardly a dry spot on the island left where you could lie down. The Doctor tried the canoe. But it was sort of cramped and uncomfortable for sleeping,回家😏 and now even there,回家📂 too,女友🎠 the mud had been carried by Dab-Dab's feet and his own. In this country the great problem was getting away from the mud.
So the good Speedy sent off messengers; and all around the world and back again word was passed from bird to bird that John Dolittle,二部🏤 the famous animal doctor,年第🔮 wished to see all the leaders of all kinds of birds,年第🍘 great and small.
"Very good,年第〽" said the Doctor. "Then that settles that. Now I must get back to the post office. The ship is yours. But as soon as the nesting is over come and let me know,回家🚩 because I have a very special idea I want to tell you about."For a long time Dab-Dab,二部🈷 the motherly housekeeper,二部🍃 had been trying to get the Doctor to take a holiday from his post office business.
"Well,回家🌺 by land it would be twenty-five miles to where the lighthouse stands,年第🍷" said the gull. "But by water it would be only about twelve,女友🌚 I should say."
Now,年第🅾 one day,年第🔅 very early in the morning,回家😡 when the Doctor was lying in bed,女友🏀 wondering what he could do about the Foreign Mail Service,二部💉 Dab-Dab and Jip brought him in his breakfast on a tray and told him there was a swallow outside who wanted to give him a message from Speedy-the-Skimmer. John Dolittle had the swallow brought in and the little bird sat on the foot of his bed while he ate his breakfast.
On his arrival at the post office the Doctor was given his usual warm reception by the king and dignitaries of Fantippo who paddled out from the town to welcome him back.
Cheapside's help was,女友🎪 indeed,回家😺 most valuable to the Doctor. The King himself said that the mails were wonderfully managed. The letters were brought regularly and never left at the wrong house.
And now it came,女友🔭 at last,回家🚠 to the pushmi-pullyu's turn for a story. He was very shy and modest and when the animals asked him the following night he said in his very well-bred manner:
"What is it,女友✂ Doctor?" said Jip,年第💵 staring down at the strange thing,女友🏆 which had now stopped rising and was carrying them like a ship,年第📅 right across the strong course of the current,女友👦 in the direction of the island.
PART IV
CHAPTER II
"Well,女友🔑 I was always adventurous by nature. And,回家🌙 plucking up my courage,年第👞 I scrambled up the vat,二部🔱 on to the edge of it. It was awful dark and I could just see the dye,年第😠 glimmering murky and dim,二部🌕 far down inside."By the way,年第☠ what really became of her?" asked the Doctor. "The natives believe she was turned into a dragon,年第👓 you know."
"Why,二部😋 Cheapside!" cried John Dolittle. "At last you've come. My,回家😏 but it's good to see you! Did you have a pleasant journey?"
"I know!" cried Jip. "It's the dragon! This is King Kakaboochi's mother-in-law we're sitting on!"
"Well,女友🎣 but what shall I tell you a story about?" asked John Dolittle. And soon the No-Man's-Land Weather Bureau began to get known abroad. The farmers in England,女友📧 who had received such good weather reports by letter from the Doctor,年第🛀 went up to London and told the government that their own reports were no good,女友🦉 that a certain John Dolittle,回家👴 M.D.,女友🐂 was writing them much better reports from some place in Africa.
Just at that moment Speedy-the-Skimmer came in and said:
